I decided to add the picture I took the night I mentioned in my last blog entry. So as you can see it's extremely blurry but you can see the railway tressle and the tugboat with the Christmas lights is a big blur. You get the idea though. That was the -40 night.
Friday night a gang of us got together and went to Duff's Famous Wings to discuss our cruise adventure next year. Everyone is SO excited about it. We're tossing around the idea of going on a Mediterranean cruise or an Alaskan cruise. Everyone had a great time Friday discussing our ideas and Kate and Stuart brought their wedding pictures so we were able to look through those too.
Duff's is a great place for wings! I would say the best in the city! Anna and Kate got 'death' wings which is one step down from the hottest wings (Armageddon) with a side of Armageddon sauce. The two of them didn't even break a sweat. Now I'm not a hot food eater really. I tend to stay between mild and medium. So Kate hands me a fry with Armageddon sauce on it to try. I hesitated momentarily but then thought ah...what the heck. MAN was I SORRY. It wasn't the pain so much as the nausea that got me. Needless to say I'll leave the Armageddon wings eating to the experts from now on. I'll happily stick to my BBQ wings.
Saturday was originally the day we were supposed to go to Niagara on the lake however a few things that came up caused us to cancel the trip. Instead Frances and I made a trip to one of our favourite stores - IKEA. I've been living here for a year and I still have all my books in boxes on my bedroom floor so I thought it was high time I got a bookshelf. So Frances happily transported me as she has a car and I do not. I found two bookshelves for $29.99 each and a floor lamp for the living room for $20. I've been wanting a lamp in the livingroom for a while. I just prefer lamp light to overhead lights at night.
Frances helped me set up my bookshelves only to realize that I should have bought a cross-brace for them. OOPS! We also realized that they look like the leaning tower of Pisa because of the carpet in my room so I'll have to tether them to the wall. They came with the tethers but I'll need a stud finder so that they don't rip the wall down. I didn't have a stud finder but I had seen my Dad find the studs using a hammer and tapping lightly against the wall to try and hear the difference in sound. Well I tried that and I could not tell the difference. So Frances and I piled a stack of my books on the bottom shelf of each bookshelf just to keep it stable and left it for now.
Later that night I was talking to my Dad and I told him about my bookshelves and my attempt to tether them to the wall. Him and my Mom are coming down after Thanksgiving and he said he'd fix it all up for me. Theoretically I know I could do this stuff myself but I know my Dad enjoys helping me with this kind of thing, so I'll just wait and we can have our father-daughter bonding moment over home improvement. Dads are great!
The lamp is all set up but silly me forgot that they don't put lightbulbs in the box with the lamp so now I have a lamp but I can't use it. DUH! That I can at least get at Canadian tire.
Frances stayed and we watched Calendar Girls together and after she left Kate came over and we watched more of the Gilmore Girls on DVD. Kate ended up staying till 1am when Stuart came and picked her up.
Sunday I promised to help Kate and Stuart with the painting on the condo. So I spent the day there helping them and came home and went to bed.
